It is not about x company being good or y company being bad, it is about the evolution of the mmorpg market forcing companies to look for monetization models that would best keep them afloat. Saying x or y practice is bad is disingenuous, many mmorpgs today would not even exist if it were not for an x or y form of monetization, they would have gone bankrupt and shut down the servers. The issue though is that a lot of good things work in theory but never manage to succeed in practice. If Ashes got more investors tomorrow, I would take that back. I haven't preordered from 2010 to CB2077 and it burned me so hard, I refunded it and refuse to do any more preorders in the future. You already have massive YouTubers like Asmongold, Summit1g, Shroud, Ninja and many many more who grew up with a few mmos and look hungry for a good one. The only way I could see it fail is if they release and don't get the word out on it's release. There are no investors who can demand deadlines, there's just, passionate people. They've talked about almost every issue that people care about, even multiboxing of all things. Sorry, I just don't believe it's going to fail. It could be mediocre with the social systems that go along with it, with a decent playerbase giving enough incentive to invest time into it as a player. It could be highly successful and become one of the main mmorpgs that people play, like FFXIV, ESO, WoW or OSRS.Talk is cheap, you are right but the situation here is entirely different. I mean.ĬDPR had a large team, high turnover rates and almost a decade of development, with the communication problems and spaghetti code issues to go along with it. From a lack of hand holding to not having too much of a grind, it seems like he has thought deeply about it all and has strong opinions about these topics, based on experience. That's not to say that he might have bad ideas but if you've followed the Q&A's and dev streams over the past year, you would be wise in thinking that the man knows a lot about many different types of mmos and what makes them all great. Intrepid has a retired rich mmo gamer at the helm who wants, himself, to play a good mmo. IF YOU SEND A MESSAGE TO THE MODS ABOUT A POST YOU MADE INCLUDE A LINK TO THAT POST.
